Prime Minister Saad Hariri announces the suspension of work in political life and calls on his family in the “Future Movement” to take the same step and not to run for the parliamentary elections and not to submit any nominations from the “Future Movement” or on its behalf. The Rafik Hariri project can be summed up in two ideas: first: preventing civil war in Lebanon, and second: a better life for the Lebanese.
I succeeded in the first, and I did not write enough success in the second.
Saad: I may be able to bear all this, but what I cannot bear is that a number of Lebanese whom I see no reason to remain in politics except to serve them, they consider me one of the pillars of the authority that caused the disaster and prevents any new political representation that would result solutions for our country and our people.
Saad_Al Hariri: There is no doubt that preventing a civil war has been imposed on settlements, from containing the repercussions of May 7 to the Doha Agreement, to visiting Damascus, to electing Michel Aoun, to the election law, and others. He added : This was the reason for every step I took, as it was the reason for my loss of my personal wealth, some of my foreign friendships, many of my national alliances, some comrades and even brothers.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced the suspension of his work in political life, calling on the Future Movement to take the same step, not to run for parliamentary elections and not to submit any nominations from the Future Movement or on behalf of the movement, because of his conviction that there is no room for any positive opportunity for Lebanon, in light of Iranian influence and international confusion, national division and borrowing Sectarianism and the wear and tear of the state.
Prime Minister Hariri affirmed that “we will remain in the service of our people, our people and our country, but our decision is to suspend any direct role or responsibility in the authority, the prosecution and politics in its traditional sense, and we will remain from our position as citizens adhering to Rafic Hariri’s project to prevent civil war and work for a better life for all Lebanese. We remain serving Lebanon and the Lebanese.” And our homes will remain open to the good will of our people and our loved ones from all Lebanon.”
Prime Minister Hariri’s position came in a speech he addressed to the Lebanese this afternoon from the House of the Center, in the presence of members of the Future Parliamentary bloc, the Presidency of the Future Movement, the Press Syndicate, Awni al-Kaaki, and media professionals.
Here is the text of the speech:
“After the assassination of the martyred Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the choice fell on me to continue his political project…to continue Rafic Hariri’s project, and not for the Hariri family to remain in politics, regardless of the project.
These settlements, which came at my expense, may be the reason for the incomplete success in achieving a better life for the Lebanese. History will judge.
But the main thing is that the goal was and always will be to overcome obstacles to reach a Lebanon impregnable in the face of civil war, and to provide a better life for all Lebanese.
This was the reason for every step I took, as it was the reason for my loss of my personal wealth, some of my foreign friendships, many of my national alliances, some comrades and even brothers.
I may be able to bear all this, but what I cannot bear is that a number of Lebanese who I see no reason to stay in politics except to serve them, they consider me one of the pillars of the authority that caused the disaster and prevents any new political representation that would produce solutions for our country and our people .
As a matter of assuming responsibility, I was the only one who responded to the October 17, 2019 revolution, so I submitted the resignation of my government. And I was the only one who, after the August 4 disaster in Beirut, tried to change the way of working through a government of specialists. In both cases, the Lebanese know what the result was, and they incur the cost of denial from their live flesh.
As a matter of bearing responsibility as well, and because I am convinced that there is no room for any positive opportunity for Lebanon in light of Iranian influence, international confusion, national division, sectarianism, and state wear and tear, I declare the following:
First, suspending my work in political life and inviting my family in the Future Movement to take the same step.
Second: Not to run in the parliamentary elections and not to submit any nominations from the Future Movement or on behalf of the movement.
To my beloved sons and daughters of the Rafic Hariri School, I say:
We remain in the service of our people, our people and our country, but our decision is to suspend any direct role or responsibility in the authority, the prosecution and politics in its traditional sense, and we will remain from our position as citizens adhering to Rafik Hariri’s project to prevent civil war and work for a better life for all Lebanese.
We remain at the service of Lebanon and the Lebanese, and our homes will remain open to the good will of our people and our loved ones from all Lebanon.
I will not forget your kindness, love and cooperation in the most difficult times. I will not forget the grace of dear Beirut, its people, its martyrs, its mosques, its churches and its spirit, whose splendor is unparalleled in the world, Tripoli’s Fayhaa, its steadfastness, its patience and its great loyalty, Akkar proud, and peace be upon its people, clans, and towns, the Gardens of Denniya, the beaches of Minya, Rawabi, Zgharta, Koura, Batroun, Zahr al-Qalamoun, the Bekaa, its eastern and northern mountains and its north. With all its peaks from Mukhtara and Bkerke, which lit candles and hearts for Rafik Hariri, the province, our childhood home, the den of our aunt, the kindest people in Sidon, the south, and the loyal people of Arqoub, Hasbaya and Rashaya.
And thanks from the bottom of my heart to my loved ones, comrades and companions of my path in the Future Movement, the House of Fatwa and its master and the white turbans under its dome.
Finally, the best speech at this moment may be what Rafik Hariri said in his statement of reluctance 17 years ago, Hariri concludes his speech, recalling his father with tears:”God Almighty entrust this beloved country Lebanon and its good people. I express with all my heart my thanks and gratitude to all those who cooperated with me during the last period.
Peace, mercy and blessings of God”.
