On the sidelines of the climate conference in Glasgow, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In a statement, the US State Department said that the two ministers discussed developments in Lebanon and Syria.

The statement stated, “Blinken also reiterated the strong American support for the aspirations of the Sudanese people for democracy, and stressed the need for the return of a transitional government led by civilians in Sudan.”

The statement affirmed the United States interest in ensuring balanced energy markets and its call for major energy producers, including the UAE, to increase production until economic conditions and the situation in energy markets normalize in light of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Blinken thanked his Emirati counterpart for the support in the process of transferring American citizens from Afghanistan and in evacuating American embassy workers and foreigners. He also praised the progress made during the last year between the UAE and Israel.
